My First Daughter

My First Daughter

My first born daughter turns 18 today. She has been old enough to drive for two years, and now she's old enough to vote, get married, join the armed forces, get a loan, and be tried as an adult in a court of law.

She was born on the first day of spring in 1984. It was with my first wife who was non-Indian and 13 years older than me. What the hell was I thinking? My daughter was the best thing to come out of that union. She is not really tall, but she is thin which makes her appear taller than she actually is. She is very smart and talented. She has a wicked sense of humor. When I asked her if she was seeing anyone special she said quite pleased, "No I'm too much of a bitch." Ah, what a little lady. She is totally obssessed with a TV show from New Zealand called "The Tribe" which comes on American cable on the Wam! Network. She writes a lot of fan-fict for it, and she even has two extensive websites devoted to the show called "A World In Our Own Image" and "Tribal Images". She also has another website called "Quest Of The Night Wolf" and she keeps a diary at Diaryland. To visit her sites just click on the Spacedog below. It has links to all of her sites.

She works at a day care after school and all day during the summer months. She graduates from high school this year. She was thinking about attending Haskell Indian Nations University in Lawrence, Kansas. She was also thinking about moving to New Orleans too. She is interested in journalism and writing. She has had some poems published, and one of her poems about the Holocoust was actually on display at the Holocoust Museum in New York.

She gets her Creek and Osage blood from me. Her tribal town is Thlopthlocco and clan is Deer. These two things usually follows the mother's side, but since her mother is white, she takes it from me.

She is very interested in her heritage, and on her own, she is studying the Creek language. I try to emerge her in as much of the tribal culture as I can, but she lives so far away from her people. She is interested in activisim and the politics which concern native peoples such as the American Indian Movement. I am very proud of her and I love her very much.
